B-DACS’ Most Successful Year So Far

As it’s the last week before Christmas, here is a round-up of what’s happened over the past year at B-DACS. It’s been more successful than we could have anticipated and we are looking forward to a well-deserved break ahead of 2015.

Taking on More Projects than Ever Before

We have completed 83 installation projects in 2014, more than ever before. Going into the New Year, which is traditionally a quiet period, we have 20 projects ongoing or due to start. On top of that, we have 46 maintenance contracts to manage, ranging from small local businesses to large office portfolios. Maintenance has been a real focus this year, so it’s great to see that side of the business growing.

With projects coming in thick and fast, we have recruited eight new employees this year, all in our engineering team. We have brought in Derek, Ross and Brad, all air conditioning engineers, as well as Eric, a ventilation specialist. Through our partnerships with Jobs & Business Glasgow and Job Centre Plus, we have also hired four engineer’s assistants, Darren, Luke, Dylan and Gary, who we plan to train up with new skills over the next few years.

As well as bolstering the team with new recruits, our existing engineers have also developed this year. Stuart, our longest-serving employee, has become our dedicated service engineer, taking care of our maintenance projects. We have put four people through F-Gas training, giving them the opportunity to take more responsibility while out on jobs. John, Kevin, Robert and Eric came into the office over a weekend to take the course and all passed first time.

Moving to Expanded Office Premises

Having almost doubled our office team in the last quarter of 2013, it quickly became clear that we needed more space. On 28th April, we moved from 2 Lonmay Place to 31 Lonmay Drive, taking on a two-storey office just across the road. The move has been very positive and it’s given us the chance to shape the office in our own style. Shortly after moving in, we created a meeting room and kitchen area with branded partitions, found space to display our accreditations and decorated the walls with images from around Glasgow.

To celebrate our growth, we held an office launch party and invited valued clients, partners, friends and family members. The ribbon cutting ceremony was hosted by MP for Glasgow East Margaret Curran and generated plenty of media coverage. The office expansion underlines how far the business has grown in the last few years. It was as recently as October 2011 that B-DACS was operating out of the Drummond family home.

Gaining Recognition for Our Achievements

We have also picked up numerous accreditations in 2014, which recognise our commitment to quality service, professional development and health and safety. We are now a Mitsubishi Electric Business Solutions Partner and Daikin D1 Partner, strengthening our links with two leading manufacturers. We also gained Safecontractor, a widely recognised accreditation that shows we have everything in place to protect our employees, other site workers and members of the public.

We became a member of the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce earlier this month and were nominated for Family Business of the Year at the Glasgow Business Awards in October. We have also been working very hard behind the scenes to achieve ISO: 9001 standard and are delighted to reveal that we have been recommended for certification. We will not receive confirmation until the New Year but the signs are promising. ISO: 9001 will verify that we have a quality management system and professional processes in place, ensuring we are doing everything possible to meet our customers’ expectations.

Investing in Young People

Another key achievement in 2014 was receiving the Investors in Young People award. It recognises the work we have been doing, hiring and developing 16-24 year olds, both in the office and in our engineering team. Over the last 12 months, we have started offering work experience to potential candidates, visiting local schools and recruiting people through Jobs & Business Glasgow and Job Centre Plus.

The employees we have brought in through these avenues have been enthusiastic and quickly integrated themselves into the team. Despite joining the business during a very busy period, they have contributed from the outset and it’s really benefitted us having them on board. Our new recruitment and development strategies have also attracted media attention. B-DACS was featured in a film made for the Glasgow Youth Employment Summit and this week was recognised with a Jobs & Business Glasgow Partner Award.

Wishing You a Prosperous New Year

It’s been a fantastic year for us for a number of reasons and we hope that yours has been a successful one. Enjoy your break over the holidays and we look forward to hearing from you in the New Year.
